Herbert L. and Margaret W. DuPont Distinguished Professor in Biomedical Science and Chair of the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, McGovern Medical School, UTHealth Houston, TX, USA.

Dr. Theresa Koehler, who is an elected Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the science and profession of microbiology, studies host-pathogen interactions and signaling among the Bacillus cereus group species. She is an internationally recognized anthrax expert, and her NIHfunded research program on Bacillus anthracis spans more than 30 years. In her lecture, Dr. Theresa Koehler will focus on the relationship between bacterialv physiology and virulence in Bacillus anthracis, the causative agent of anthrax.
