Title
"Strain-specific virulence of bovine-adapted Staphylococcus aureus"

Adaptation to distinct host environments allows the Gram-positive bacterial pathogen Staphylococcus aureus to survive and persist in various hosts, in particular dairy cows. Current antimicrobial treatments and vaccination against S. aureus bovine intramammary infection are not very effective, and in most cases, S. aureus induces long-lasting, persistent intramammary infections with significant veterinary and public health concerns.

In her presentation, Dr. Orla Keane, who has led and collaborated on many projects in the areas of bovine and ovine infection disease for the last 20+ years, will show how the pathogen genomic variation controls the infection outcome and disease progression during intramammary infection in dairy cows.
