Course content
Our interns rotate through the various subjects and areas of specialisation in equine medicine, giving them the opportunity to receive a very wide-ranging, in-depth post-graduate education under the supervision of internationally recognised specialists. In the clinical area, interns are responsible for admission and care as well as for assisting with the examination and treatment of patients during the day and night shift.
The following specialisms are offered to deepen clinical skills and abilities:
- Anaesthesiology and perioperative intensive care medicine
- Equine surgery
- Ophthalmology
- Equine internal medicine
- Obstetrics
- Gynaecology
- Andrology and insemination
- Laboratory medicine
- pathology
- Animal nutrition
Costs
Once an internship has been accepted, the Austrian Students Union Fee of 24,70€ is payable, subject to adjustments.
Graduation
A certificate is issued for the successful internship. This is one of the prerequisites for participating in a residency programme recognised by a European College.
Required qualifications and knowledge
- Completed degree in veterinary medicine totalling 300 ECTS.
- Good language skills in German (B2).
- Good language skills in English (B2).
- Other desired qualifications and competences
- Above-average theoretical knowledge in equine medicine
- Previous practical knowledge in equine medicine
- Relevant experience in foreign training centres (equine-specific internships abroad)- Aptitude for teamwork
- Above-average motivation - Organisational skills
- Completed basic and specialised medical radiation protection training (in accordance with AllgStrSChV § 41 and Annex 8)
- Ability to work under pressure and stress resistance
