The Research Institute of Wildlife Ecology (FIWI) and the neighbouring Konrad Lorenz Institute of Ethology (KLIVV) on the Wilhelminenberg and the Messerli Research Institute (MFI) on the campus in Floridsdorf together form the Department of Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (ILWI). The Austrian Ornithological Centre (AOC) is also based at the KLIVV.
The three research institutes share a strong interdisciplinary orientation (from physiology to philosophy) as well as a focus on behaviour, ecology and human-animal interactions (wild, farm and companion animals).
