The Vice-Rector for Study Affairs of the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna confirms that, in accordance with Section 2(6) of the Ordinance on University Entrance Qualifications (Federal Law Gazette II No. 182/2019), knowledge of the natural sciences, biology or biology in combination with other teaching areas is already included in the selection procedure prior to admission, thereby waiving the additional examination requirement in biology and environmental studies for studies in

• Veterinary Medicine
• Bache and Biotechnology

at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna.

In accordance with Section 4(1)(a) of the Ordinance on University Entrance Qualifications, the additional examination in Latin must be taken before taking the first diploma examination for the

• Diploma Programme in Veterinary Medicine

The requirement to take the additional examination in Latin as stipulated in Section 4(1)(a) of the Ordinance on University Entrance Qualifications can be waived if Latin has been successfully completed at a secondary school with at least ten hours of instruction per week.

The additional Latin examination can be taken at VetmedUni Vienna as a supplementary examination.

The preparatory courses Latin for Veterinary Medicine: Grammar (Course Number 971702) and Latin for Veterinary Medicine: Texts  (Course Number 971703) are offered in the winter and summer semester.

If the secondary school leaving certificate submitted is not equivalent to an Austrian secondary school leaving certificate, or if there is no proof of sufficient knowledge of the German language, corresponding supplementary examinations must be taken before admission to the degree programme.

The supplementary examinations are prescribed in the admissions notice in order to establish equivalence on the basis of the submitted documents.

All supplementary examinations are taken at the University Preparation Programme of the Vienna Universities (VWU) that was established specifically for this purpose and where the relevant courses are to be attended before taking the examination(s). For this purpose, you will be admitted to the VWU as a non-degree student. As soon as you are admitted as a non-degree student to take the supplementary examination(s) for admission to Vetmeduni Vienna, the supplementary examination(s) are to be taken exclusively with the VWU. You must then provide proof of this by presenting a corresponding positive certificate from the supplementary examination.

After admission as a non-degree student to the University Preparation Programme of the Vienna Universities, other certificates will no longer be accepted!
