Patient information & patient visits

Lameness leads to significant financial losses in modern dairy farming. Lame cows lean and give less milk than healthy animals. In cooperation, we offer comprehensive lameness diagnostics including imaging diagnostics with subsequent conservative or surgical therapy, as well as routine hoof care.

Diagnostics

Aside from a standard clinical examination, every lame animal has to undergo classic orthopaedic testing. This procedure is supplemented by puncturing of diseased joints and tendon sheaths and modern diagnostics imagining methods.

Aside from traditional methods of lameness diagnostics, we offer: digital x-ray, ultrasound testing (joints, tendon sheaths, tendons, muscles, bursa, blood vessels)

Treatment

Aside from conventional treatment options for orthopaedic diseases in cattle, small ruminants, swine, lamas, etc., we also offer specific treatment plans: all surgeries of the musculoskeletal system, fracture treatment

Functional claw trimming

All bovine patients that are brought to the Clinic with ingrown claws, receive functional claw trimming. This helps to restore the natural shape of the claws and helps to relieve pressure. It also improves the animals' well-being. This measure is also an important procedure to prepare for claw surgeries.

Farm visits for cases of lameness in entire herds

If an entire cattle herd suffers from lameness, farm visits can be conducted upon consultation with the attending veterinarian. After a systematic assessment of the stable and the patient, the findings are documented in specific protocols. These collected data allow documenting the health status of claws and the overall state of lameness. The expert evaluation of the data can be used to determine risk factors of claw diseases and lameness.
