My scientific interest aims for a better understanding of the molecular arsenal that enables foodborne pathogens (model organism Listeria monocytogenes) to transfer to and survive in food production systems.

Holistic microbiome-based impacts and less understood niches of survival (e.g. biofilms) have been a focus in the recent years.

In addition, we leverage hazard mitigation strategies (e.g. based on novel chemistry)  and advance effective and rapid hazard detection systems.

By engagement in national (Codex Alimentarius Austriacus) and international bodies (European Food Safety Agency), we translate outcomes for the sake of an improvement of risk assessments that finally should lead to a justified and evidence-based risk management.
