Open Access Agreements

The University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna negotiates in close cooperation with the Austian Academic Consortium Open Access elements in license agreements.

As a result of these negotiations, university members can publish articles in scientific journals free of charge or at reduced publication fees. Furthermore access to large e-journal portfolio is made possible.

Scientists at Vetmeduni can publish open access articles free of charge in 62 subscription journals published by American Chemical Society.

Under which conditions can you publish free of charge?

  • Corresponding Author is affiliated with Vetmeduni at the time of submission of the article.
  • The email address of Vetmeduni is used for submission.
  • The article was accepted for publication by the relevant magazine.
  • The article must have been accepted for publication during the term of the contract (01.01.2020 to 31.12.2022).
  • The submitted and accepted contribution does not correspond to one of the following article types: Additional and Corrections, Expressions of Concern, Retraction, In This Issue, Introducing our Authors.

Please note:

The agreement signed with the American Chemical Society does not include the assumption of fees such as Page Charges, Color Charges or similar.

Further information:

Scientists of Vetmeduni have the opportunity to publish in 174 subscription or gold open access journals of the Science Technology Medicine Collection free of charge.

Under which conditions can you publish free of charge?

  • Corresponding Author is affiliated with the Vetmeduni
  • The email address of Vetmeduni is used for submission
  • The article was accepted for publication by the respective magazine
  • The article to be published must correspond to one of the following article types: Research Article, Review Article or Rapid Communication.

    Please note:
  • The agreement concluded with Cambridge University Press does not include the assumption of fees such as page charges, color charges or similar.
  • Changing the corresponding author after the peer review is not permitted.

Vetmeduni employees can publish open access articles free of charge in Elsevier and Cell Press subcription journals and Elsevier, Cell Press and The Lancet Gold Open Access journals (for submissions from 1.1.2021).

Under which conditions can you publish free of charge?

  • Corresponding Author is affiliated with Vetmeduni
  • The email address of Vetmeduni is used for submission
  • The article was accepted for publication by the respective journal
  • The article to be published must correspond to one of the following article types: Full length article, Review article, Short Communication

Please note:

  • The agreement signed with Elsevier does not include the assumption of fees such as Page Charges, Color Charges or similar
  • The publisher grants a discount of 15% on publications in Elsevier Gold Open Access journals submitted before 1.1.2021

Further information

Scientists of Vetmeduni can publish in over 70 Frontiers journals with a 10% discount on the Article Processing Charge (APC) for all articles submitted and accepted since mid-March 2018.

Under what conditions can publication be cheaper?

  • Corresponding Author is affiliated with the Vetmeduni.
  • The email address of Vetmeduni is used for submission.
  • During the submission process, Vetmeduni is indicated as the paying institution. (For publications in the context of FWF projects, please select the FWF.)
  • The submitted and accepted contribution corresponds to Article Type A (including Clinical Study Protocol, Methods, Original Research, Policy and Practice Reviews, Protocols, Review, Systematic Review, Technology Report).

The Open Access Team settles the invoice  directly with the authors. The author as well as the secretariat of the respective facility, receive a cost overview with the request for payment approval and denotation of a cost unit. The Open Access Team forwards this information to the finance department, which then charges the respective cost units. In case the article meets the requirements of the publication fund, the Open Access Team will inform the authors about further prodecure.

Scientists of Vetmeduni can publish at no charge in the journals (.pdf) of the IWA.

  • Mention the affiliation Vetmeduni as part of the submission
     

Further information:

Vetmeduni employees receive a 20% discount on the Article Processing Charge (APC) in Gold Open Access journals.

Under which conditions can publication be cheaper?

  • Corresponding Author is affiliated with the Vetmeduni.
  • The email address of Vetmeduni is used for submission.

The Open Access Team settles the APC directly with the authors. The author as well as the secretariat of the respective facility, receive a cost overview with the request for payment approval and a cost unit. The information will be forwarded to the finance department, which then charges the respective cost units. In case the article meets the requirements of the publication fund, the Open Access Team will contact the authors about further prodecure.

Under which conditions can you publish under this agreement?

  • The corresponding author of the article is affiliated with Vetmeduni at the time of acceptance
     
  • The coorresponding autor has listed Vetmeduni as his/her affiliation in the article
     
  • The article has been accepted for publication during the term of this agreement (01.01.2024 - 31.12.2025)
     
  • The submitted and accepted paper does correspond to the following article type: research article, review article, brief report, case report

Please note:

After the article has been accepted for publication the corresponding author has to apply to publish the article under the agreement in SciPris.

The agreement does not cover additional costs like colour charges, page charges, etc.

FWF

Open access funding for articles resulting from FWF projects is processed by Vetmeduni.

The following passage must be included in all publications at submission:

Furthermore authors affiliated with Vetmeduni recieve a 10% discount on the Article Processing Charge for articles published in Sage Gold Open Access Journals.

  • The submitted and accepted paper does correspond to the following article type: article - which includes: Original Research Papers, Review papers, Brief Communications, Short Reports, Case Report

Please note:

Invocies for articles in Gold Open Access Journals will be send to the Vetmeduni Open Access Team. The Open Access Team settles the invoice directly with the authors. The author as well as the secretariat of the respective facility, receive a cost overview with the request for payment approval and denotation of a cost unit. The Open Access Team forwards this information to the finance department, which then charges the respective cost units. In case the article meets the requirements of the Vetmeduni Open Access Fund, the Open Access Team will inform the authors about further prodecure.  

The agreement signed with Sage does not include the assumption of fees such as Page Charges, Color Charges or similar.

Further information:

Vetmeduni employees can publish Open Access in over 1,850 Springer subscription journals (Springer Open-Choice) free of charge.

Under which conditions can you publish free of charge?

  • Corresponding Author is affiliated with Vetmeduni at the time of acceptance of the article.
  • The email address of Vetmeduni is used for submission.
  • The submitted and accepted contribution corresponds to one of the following article types: OriginalPaper, ReviewPaper, BriefCommunication, ContinuingEducation.

Workflow:

  • When submitting the article, please state your affiliation with Vetmeduni.
  • If the article is accepted, Springer will provide you with a link to the "MyPublication" online form and you can consent to the Open Access publication here.

Please note:

Fees such as page charges, color charges, etc. will be charged separately with the submitter, if applicable, by the respective journal.

Vetmeduni employees can publish Open Access in all 1,300 sucription journals from Wiley (Online Open) free of charge.

Under which conditions can you publish free of charge?

  • Corresponding Author is affiliated with Vetmeduni at the time of acceptance of the article.
  • During the process of submission "Online Open" option must be selected.
  • The article must have been accepted for publication during the term of the contract.
  • The submitted and accepted contribution corresponds to one of the following article types: Case Study, Commentary, Data Article, Education, Lecture, Method and Protocol, Perspective, Practice and Policy, Rapid Publication, Research Article, Review Article, Short Communication, Technical Note

Workflow:

  • When submitting the article, please quote your affiliation with Vetmeduni.
  • If your article was accepted, Wiley will inform you about the possibility of Open Access publication. For this, the selection "OnlineOpen" is necessary.
  • Select your affiliation to Vetmeduni ("Kemö Institution").
  • Ideally, use your email address from Vetmeduni. This will make it easier to identify that you belong to Vetmeduni.
