CEPI Summary

The production of safe and high quality poultry products as well as the reduction of zoonoses are targets that are being pursued by both Austria and Hungary. Animal welfare, the reduction of emissions and the feeding of poultry with feedingstuffs without genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are a concern of both countries. Therefore, it is of particular importance for Austrian and Hungarian experts to deal with the issues of poultry health and nutrition.

CEPI Partner

The Poultry Clinic of Vetmeduni Vienna and the Georgikon Faculty of the University of Pannonia (Keszthely, Hungary) are recognized institutions that have expertise in the areas mentioned above. The cooperative project involves joint research, advisory and teaching activities and combines the complementary scientific profiles and infrastructure. Joint dealing with health and nutrition aspects of poultry production provides an innovative approach to address regional and cross-border issues. An essential aspect of the project is the involvement of the national poultry organizations of both countries as strategic partners to identify problems in the respective region and to disseminate the results of research and given consultation.

CEPI Objectives and Results

Project objectives and results include disseminating knowledge to students, joint publications for the scientific community, poultry and feed producers and consumers, and intensifying contacts between poultry sectors of both countries to jointly address problems and develop solutions. Various public and intercultural events form the basis for long-term contacts between the participants of both sides of the border.

In the long term, this project is the basis for initiating new joint projects in poultry production. A better understanding of poultry health and nutrition will strengthen the sustainable use of agricultural resources and help to boost agricultural livelihoods and sustainability in the region.

CEPI Budget and Financing

In total, this project has a budget of € 904 193.66. The project is funded with 85 % by the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) and with 15 % by national contribution. This project is also financed by the Vetmeduni Vienna.
