What is VetNEST?
VetNEST (Veterinary Network of European Student and Staff Transfer) is an association of veterinary universities from nine countries in Central and Eastern Europe.
This summer we host our 5th VetNEST Summer School “Animal Welfare, Veterinary Ethics, and Law and Communication Skills” from July 7th to 12th, 2024 on the Vetmeduni campus in Vienna.
What are our goals?
The aim of the interdisciplinary VetNEST Summer School is to train students in the areas of animal welfare, veterinary ethics, law and communication skills in order to identify, overcome and communicate possible challenges in their future working life.
In addition to lectures and practically-oriented teaching units, there will also be an excursion to the Vetmeduni's teaching and research facilities. Animal welfare parameters on cattle will be evaluated and discussed on site in order to meet the increasing demands on animal welfare in food production as a veterinarian.
The summer school not only focuses on professional training in the areas of animal welfare, veterinary ethics, law and communication skills, but also aims to create a collaborative learning environment between students with different cultural backgrounds. In our teaching program, we particularly encourage the dialogue between the students in order to promote critical, reflective and interdisciplinary thinking.
The VetNEST Summer School can be recognized as an elective subject with 3 ECTS credits as part of the student's curriculum. The costs of summer school teaching and meals are covered by a CEEPUS (Central European Exchange Program for University Studies) scholarship.
Aside the teaching program, we look forward to a welcome and farewell dinner and time for exchange among students and teachers.

In addition to students of veterinary medicine from the 5th semester onwards, bachelor's, master's and PhD students in related subjects who take interest in the VetNEST Summer School’s teaching goals, are also welcome.
