Medien Workshop – Maker Space for digital teaching

Our media workshop enables teachers to produce high-quality e-learning content. From image editing and video editing to the professional recording of learning videos and lectures using green screens and tools for creating interactive learning content, you will find everything you need to implement your e-learning projects in our media workshop. Thanks to our hardware rental service, you can produce images and videos “in the field” and carry out post-production in the media workshop. We will be happy to advise you in every respect and support you with training on the equipment!

Upgrade: the existing media workshop will soon be replaced by the new media centre, which is currently under construction. Nomen es omen - the new media centre will be larger, better equipped and at the same time more user-friendly - look forward to the “one-button studio”!

Video productions - having picture and sound mastered

Video teachings are wonderful tools for communicating knowledge and are also relatively easy to produce thanks to state-of-the-art technology. Technical progress in this area is rapid, and the resulting possibilities are enormous, but require certain basic knowledge. As part of personal consultations, training courses and individual workshops, we try to provide committed faculty with the best possible support for their video productions.

Photo productions - creating high-quality images for teaching and publications

We advise and support you in all image-related matters, especially when it comes to creating high-quality images suitable for publication. The range extends from shooting techniques to image design, editing and archiving in the Vetmediathek.

Photogrammetry - creating 3D objects from real items

Photogrammetry or object scanning is a new technology that can be used to digitize real objects and display them in 3D on monitors, tablets and smartphones. Viewing angle and magnification can be selected by the viewer, and labels can also be added. The “digital film” is created by moving an object in a controlled manner and capturing several hundred digital images from multiple perspectives, which are then processed by software to create a rotatable and reversible 3D object.

The new VetMediathek - the powerful digital media archive of the Vetmeduni

The VetMediathek collects audiovisual media from the field of veterinary medicine and beyond, this currently includes over 140,000 images and videos. The aim of the database is to archive and manage digital assets in order to make them permanently available for teaching and research purposes. All files are thoroughly labeled, including copyright notice and GDPR status, secured, findable, sortable and accessible worldwide, provided the appropriate rights are granted. Media can be shared with other users and also linked to other systems such as the Vetucation learning platform to save resources. The VetMediathek is the audiovisual memory of the Vetmeduni.

Copyright law - it pays to be informed

Anyone who produces their own works (texts, images, videos, etc.) or uses third-party works should be familiar with copyright law in order to act in accordance with the law. The Copyright Act (UrhG) defines the conditions under which works may be used by others and thus offers a certain degree of protection. The document “Copyright for teachers” published by us summarizes the most important rules of the Copyright Act in an understandable way.

Data protection - a compulsory requirement in media production

Anyone who produces media (images, videos, podcasts, etc.) in which people can be seen or heard must comply with the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

This regulation lists all the options that legalize the processing of personal data, including in connection with media (recording, editing, storing...). As a rule, these are so-called declarations of consent or model contracts, which must be signed before the recording. We will be happy to advise you.

Live streaming - knowledge transfer on a grand scale

When knowledge needs to be made accessible online and live to a large audience, live streaming is the answer. With the help of streaming technology, lectures, discussions and even congresses can be broadcast online and live. Vetmeduni is currently using streaming technology for the new “VetmedTalk” format, in which controversial topics are discussed live and online by experts. The technology and production of these streaming events are managed by the Department of E-Learning and New Media.
