The Department of Interdisciplinary Life Sciences aims to preserve and develop excellence in scientific research, to provide research-led, high-quality teaching through its members, and to provide high-quality academic services within the university and externally.

The Department of Interdisciplinary Life Sciences is composed of three institutes:

• Research Institute of Wildlife Ecology (FIWI)
• Konrad Lorenz Institute of Ethology (KLIVV) 
• Messerli Research Institute
