Size & weight: 14-15 cm, 20-36 g

Appearance: Male with blackish brown upperparts, grayish underparts and a black throat; females more inconspicuously colored

Habitat: From suburban areas to densely built-up urban centers

Voice: Deeper "chirp" than field sparrow

Nest & breeding: Nests in cavities, under roofs, in building niches and nesting boxes. The female lays 3-6 eggs 1-4 times a year between March and August.

Food: Seeds, buds, insects, but also human food waste
