A few kilometers east of Grafenwörth in Lower Austrua is Seebarn am Wagram, nestled between the nearby Danube floodplain forests and the cultural landscape of the Wagram, which is characterized by viticulture. Flying "jewels" such as Bee-eater (Merops apiaster), Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) and Hoopoe (Upupa epops) are native to the region. The field office of the Austrian Ornithological Centre(AOC) in the centre of Seebarn is an excellent starting point to explore the birdlife of the region. The historic elementary school building was extensively renovated and adapted. A visit to the AOC field office in Seebarn and the regional events is worthwhile in every season - the team is looking forward to meeting you!

(Visits by prior appointment or for public events.)

The building

Today, the former elementary school serves as AOC field office in Lower Austria and offers scientists jobs and accommodation in order to pursue exciting issues in the region. A lecture hall, a room for bird ringing and a small laboratory support knowledge transfer and research.  At the Seebarn field office, native bird species can be experienced directly, or if the weather is bad one can explore the typical feathered inhabitants of the Wagram in our exhibition.  Around the building, visitors can see different nesting aids that may be installed to support birds in gardens and around our homes. Whether you want to provide a home for blue tits, swallows or owls - at the Seebarn AOC field office you will find tips for optimal location, correct installation, bird feeding and how to avoid danger spots for birds.
