Bird of the year 2021

 

Size & weight: 11-12 cm, 11-12 g

Appearance: Dark streaked on top, a long yellow over-eye streak as well as a pale yellow rump; particularly striking: the tiny bill compared to the head

Habitat: Inhabits parks and gardens with single conifers, often in suburban areas.

Song: High-pitched, clear song, reminiscent of the squeaking of a rusty bicycle chain

Nest & breeding: The female builds a densely woven, cup-shaped nest. She lays 3-5 eggs 1-2 times a year between April and July.

Food: Seeds of herbs and buds
